Class Highlight: The Benefits of Yin Yoga

 In Blog

At RYK, we not only offer Kundalini Yoga classes, but we also offer a wide variety of practices including Yin Yoga, Tai Chi, Kriya flow, Pranayama and more. While all of these classes are incredible and offer many benefits, they each have their specific focuses and benefits for why they should be included in promoting your physical wellness and wellbeing.

Yin Yoga is a class offered multiple times each week and is truly a beautiful hour and a half for your mind and body. Yin Yoga works to balance the energy of our active lifestyles, bringing a sense of calmness to the body, mind, and spirit.

When we think of yoga, naturally our minds tend to drift towards active practices that require constant movement, working only the muscular half of our body or the “yang” tissues. Through the practice of Yin Yoga, we work the other half of our body or the “yin” tissues which are comprised of the ligaments, bones, deep fascia networks, and even joints. By applying gentle pressure for a prolonged period of time, during Yin Yoga our breath and stillness releases tension in the “yin” tissues and allows us to find peace, harmony and vitality.

The benefits of practicing yin yoga are extensive and can have positive short- and long-term effects on the body. After yin yoga, you will find that you have an increased range of motion, more energy, and a quiet mind.
